  • After living in several homes across more than two decades of marriage, Jeff and Kathi found the perfect piece of land: an ocean view lot located between Bellingham, Washington and Victoria, British Columbia.

This wasn’t the first home they built. Past experience with low quality, prefabricated kitchens cemented the desire for custom cabinets in their new kitchen. Through their builder, they connected with HighCraft’s Production Manager, Eric Van Hofwegen.

“Before I met with Eric, I envisioned what I wanted and drew it out on paper,” Kathi said. “After we walked through the space together, he took my vision, gave me input on what was and wasn’t going to work, and then created the design.”

The remainder of the project was the simple part, Kathi said.

“From start to finish, the process was so easy. Eric was always timely with communicating by phone and text message. As I first saw the kitchen in my mind, I see it in our home now. He captured my vision, and the final product turned out better than I even thought it could.”

  • Built in 1964 and sitting on more than 100 feet of waterfront, Jeff and Jane’s lakehouse in an established Lake Whatcom neighborhood was the perfect location to enjoy with their grown children and grandson. Despite the idyllic setting, the sprawling rancher needed an update: more natural light, fewer interior walls, new cabinets, and updated finishes to make the home their own.

Over their two-year renovation, the couple came to a crux. “We had a tough time shopping cabinets,” Jeff said. “Jane was pretty sure of what she wanted. We came across plenty of nice cabinets but we weren’t finding what we wanted in a custom color.”

At the recommendation of a business colleague, Jeff connected with HighCraft’s Production Manager, Eric Van Hofwegen. “Right away, we had total professional and emotional support with our cabinet project,” he said. “Eric was human: honest, straight up, and articulate.”

As the project unfolded, Jeff came to appreciate Eric’s “tremendous conscientiousness,” referencing an occasion in which Eric stopped by the couple’s home in an evening to remedy a challenge with a cabinet.

“The process wasn’t time-consuming or painful,” Jeff said. “Eric was always on time and excellent in the back-and-forth communication with my wife. His team did a masterful job with our cabinets — and we especially appreciate that they lived by the project’s original schedule.”
